Deputy Chairperson of PAN Eddy Soeparno agreed with the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, who said that after the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) regarding the abolition of the presidential and vice presidential nomination threshold of 20 percent, the Constitutional Court also has the opportunity to cancel the parliamentary threshold of 4 percent.

According to him, if this happens then it will be very good for the next legislative election (Pileg).

I think it's very good, because what we see now with the Parliamentary Threshold' 4 percent there are parties that are almost included, such as PPP whose votes are up to 3.9 percent then PSI is almost 3 percent. This means that there are people who vote but their electoral rights are not channeled because the party does not enter, the elected candidates cannot enter, so finally their votes are lost," said Eddy, Friday, January 17.

The deputy chairman of the MPR regretted that in the 2024 election there were 16 million votes missing due to the 4 percent parliamentary threshold.

According to him, if in the future there are no restrictions, there must be dialogue in forming a joint faction for one party that only has one or two members who qualify for parliament.

There are approximately 16 million votes missing just because of the 4 percent Parliamentary Threshold restrictions. If in the future there will be no restrictions, I think there is one party that may only have one or two members who passed, so they still pass," he said.

"But later when the parliament must join the others then hold a dialogue forming a joint faction," continued Eddy.

Eddy believes that the discourse on eliminating the parliamentary threshold is a form of justice for democracy. Therefore, he supports the abolition of the 4 percent parliamentary threshold.

"I think for the justice of our democracy, there should not be the voice of the people who are entrusted to their representatives. I think it is a good prospect if the Presidential Threshold and Parliamentary Threshold are zero, even if they cannot be zero, yes, maybe it can be as low as possible," concluded the West Java electoral district legislator.
