The Batu Police Narcotics Investigation Unit (Polres), East Java, arrested a man with the initials ANW (30) because he was proven to have planted 62 marijuana trees.
Head of the Batu Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, AKP Ariek Yuly Irianto, said that ANW's arrest was the result of the development of a marijuana trafficking case involving two perpetrators with the initials RS and MRR.
"The disclosure of the marijuana planting case began with the arrest of suspects RS and MRR who were arrested on January 12, 2025 in Pendem Village with evidence of a pocket of 3.24 grams of marijuana. We conducted an in-depth investigation of the name ANW who had been arrested, as well as confiscated 62 stems of marijuana trees," said Ariek as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 15.
ANW, said Ariek, was arrested at his home in Karangploso District, Malang Regency, an hour after the local police arrested RS and MRR.
"He (ANW) was arrested at 10.00, after we conducted an analysis and evaluation (anev)," he said.
Officers also searched the house and obtained evidence of 36 grams of dried marijuana and tools for planting needs in the form of charcoal husks.
While in the attic of ANW's house, the police found 62 cannabis trees that had been embedded in pots and polybags.
Ariek explained that the perpetrator, who graduated from agricultural science, had been carrying out cannabis cultivation activities in the house for five years.
"He (has marijuana) from experimenting to buy cannabis seeds, not from dealers," he said.

The perpetrators also sold marijuana from their cultivation by offering it word of mouth until it reached the ears of the hospital and MRR who were first arrested by police officers.
"To cultivate, if the harvest is only dried and sold for two grams, Rp. 100,000. The marketing is chain, it could go anywhere including Malang City and Malang Regency," he said.
