JAKARTA - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 shook several areas in Aceh, causing a number of residents to rush out of their houses.

Head of BMKG Mata Ie Aceh Besar Geophysical Station, Djati Cipto Kuncoro, in Banda Aceh, on Saturday reported that the earthquake occurred at around 08.04.53 WIB in the Aceh Jaya region.

"Based on the results of BMKG analysis in preliminary information, it shows that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5," said Djati Cipto Kuncoro.

Djati conveyed that the epicenter of this earthquake was located at coordinates 5.04 North Latitude and 95.38 East Longitude, or precisely located on land at a distance of 38 km southwest of Jantho City, Aceh Besar Regency at a depth of 92 km.

Djati said, if you pay attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an intermediate type due to subduction activity.

"The analysis of the source mechanism shows that this earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism," he said.

Djati said, the earthquake shock was felt by residents in the areas of Banda Aceh, Pidie Jaya, Nagan Raya, Calang, and Lhokseumawe. The vibrations are felt real if you are in the house.

"Until now there has been no report of the impact of the damage caused by the earthquake. Modeling results show that this earthquake has no potential for a tsunami," said Djati.

BMKG appealed to the public to remain calm and not be affected by issues that cannot be justified.

As much as possible to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake. Check and make sure the residential building is sufficiently earthquake resistant.

"Make sure there is no damage after the vibration which endangers the stability of the building before you return to the house," said Djati.
