BPBD Pangkalpinang Employee Who Distributed Drugs Was Fired

JAKARTA - A contract employee at BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency) Pangkalpinang a few days ago was arrested by the police because he was suspected of distributing methamphetamine-type drugs.

Following up on this, the Mayor of Pangkalpinang, Province of Bangka Belitung Islands gave strict sanctions in the form of dismissal of one of the contract employees.

"I have direct orders to the Secretary of the BPBD to immediately dismiss the person concerned. This is a form of the government's seriousness in eradicating drugs, and we will not mess around in cases like this", said Mayor of Pangkalpinang Maulan Aklil, as reported by Antara, Friday, April 16th.

He admitted that he deeply regretted the existence of unscrupulous employees in the Pangkalpinang City Government who were involved in the narcotics trafficking case.

According to him, at the beginning of the acceptance or extension of the work contract for honorarium workers, one of the conditions that must be fulfilled is an attachment to a drug-free certificate.

"They attached all drug-free, but how come it's still there. We missed this. The drug-free certificate that was made yesterday does not necessarily state that it is free from drugs", he also said.

Maulan Aklil promised not to tolerate honorarium employees and state civil servants who work within the Pangkalpinang City Government who are involved in drug abuse and trafficking so that similar cases do not recur.

"We will still carry out strict sanctions if they are involved", he said.

Maulan Aklil responded to the incident of the Pangkalpinang Police's arrest of an unscrupulous honorarium employee at the local city BPBD, for allegedly distributing methamphetamine.

Head of the Operations Section of the Pangkalpinang Police, Kompol Johan Wahyudi, said that the suspect BAP (37), a resident of the National Building Village was arrested when he was about to carry out a methamphetamine transaction in the Tampuk Pinang Pura area, Gerunggang, Pangkalpinang on Thursday, April 8 at around 17.30 WIB.

"The perpetrator is suspected of being a dealer. When he was arrested the perpetrator was still wearing the orange uniform of the Pangkalpinang City BPBD Service", he also said.

He said the perpetrator was arrested based on public information, and when he was searched, he found a strip of methamphetamine that the perpetrator dumped on the street.

"The methamphetamine was previously kept by the perpetrator in his front pocket, then discarded when the officers were going to be examined. Then the perpetrator and the evidence were brought to the police for further action", he said again.

For his actions, the perpetrator is suspected of violating Article 114 paragraph (1) 112 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with the threat of a minimum sentence of six years and a maximum of 12 years in prison.
