Islamic Party Axis Coalition Could Be Reincarnation Of Power To Win Election

JAKARTA - Political observer Adi Prayitno assesses that the emergence of an Islamic Party axis coalition can be a winning force in the 2024 General Election.

In fact, not only PKS and PPP party opened the discourse, Islamic political parties such as PKB and PBB also welcomed it.

"This is certainly good news, it can be a reincarnation of the power of the Islamic axis, such as in 1999 when Gus Dur was appointed president", Adi said, Friday, April 16.

According to the Executive Director of Indonesian Political Parameters, the Islamic axis coalition is a momentum to consolidate Muslim voters with a large voting niche. As well as awareness of the political power of Islamic political parties.

However, according to him, the discourse has not yet been confirmed to run smoothly, especially in carrying out presidential candidates. This is because the ideological differences between Islamic parties will become a problem if they prioritize their respective egos.

"The problem is that the axis of Islam often breaks along the way due to several factors. First, sectoral ego, two different ideologies, thirdly the absence of a key figure who holds them together. All Islamic parties admit that they are the ones who are judged to have the best cadres to be nominated as presidential candidates. This often makes them wither", he explained.

Another factor, continued Adi, is a different slice of Islamic ideology. "It has to be admitted that PKB, PKS, and even PAN voters often don't get along, it's just a matter of qunut (always obey), tahlil not tahlil, or going to the grave or not. This is a political psychology that is often said that Islamic parties are difficult to unite", Adi said.

However, the chance for the coalition axis of Islamic parties to win is very big if it is realized. The condition is that they have to really unite by putting aside the sectoral ego.

"So this Islamic axis must have a united spirit, in the name of politics and logic, without it all the axis of Islam is only a discourse and will not be real", he said.
