With The Status Of A US Citizen, Orient Kore Was Disqualified By The Constitutional Court Even Though He Won The Sabu Raijua Regional Election

JAKARTA - The Constitutional Court (MK) panel of judges disqualified candidate pair number 2, namely Orient Patriot Riwu Kore and Thobias Uly from participating in the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) of Sabu Raijua Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Declaring the decision of the Sabu Raijua KPU regarding the recapitulation of the vote count results for the election of regents and vice regents dated December 16," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Anwar Usman, reading the verdict of the Sabu Raijua Regency Pilkada dispute trial, quoted by Antara, Thursday, April 15.

In addition, in the verdict read by Anwar Usman, he also granted part of the petition's petition, stating that the Sabu Raijua Regency KPU's decision to determine the candidate pairs for regent and deputy regent who met the requirements as participants in the election of regents and deputy regents dated September 23, 2020

This includes the decision of the local KPU regarding the determination of the serial number and list of candidate pairs for Pilkada Sabu Raijua as long as the candidate pair number two is concerned, namely Orient P Riwu Kore and Thobias Uly.

Furthermore, the panel of judges also declared the KPU decision to cancel the determination of the Candidate Pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Sabu Raijua. The Constitutional Court also ordered the respondent party, in this case the KPU Sabu Raijua, to carry out a re-vote which was only followed by candidate pair number 1 and pair number 3.

The re-voting must be carried out within a grace period of 60 working days from the time the decision is pronounced by the Constitutional Court Panel of Judges, and determine and announce the result of re-voting without having to report it to the Constitutional Court.

In the verdict, the Constitutional Court also ordered the KPU to supervise and coordinate with the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial KPU regarding the implementation of the verdict.

The Panel of Justices of the Constitutional Court also ordered the same thing for the General Election Supervisory Body to implement the verdict. Subsequently, he ordered the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police and the Sabu Raijua Police to secure the re-voting process.

"Lastly, rejecting the petitioner's request for anything other than the rest," said Anwar.

Orient Kore is known to have dual citizenship, namely the United States and Indonesia. His United States passport will expire in 2027.
