Gerindra Responds To Criticism Of Corruptor Peace Fines: Mahfud Don't Instigate

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Habiburokhman responded to the statement of the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD who criticized the statement of forgiveness for corruptors if he returned the stolen money, aka a peaceful fine for corruptors.

Habiburokhman asked Mahfud not to incite by assuming Prabowo is tantamount to supporting collusion.

According to Habiburokhman, Prabowo's statement was a general statement by a government leader and a head of state, who could not be answered procedurally in the style of Mahfud MD. Instead, he accused Mahfud of being a failed minister.

"Mahfud is a failed person, he himself considers him a failure, 5 years as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs by giving a 5 score in law enforcement, what does Mahfud MD want to judge?", he continued.

The deputy governor of Gerindra emphasized that President Prabowo could not have instructed him to ignore various laws and regulations.

"The point is that all of our legal protocols are intended to maximize the return of state losses, that's the stress," said Habiburokhman.

"So don't argue if people return how the law is, it's not that, we debate the trivial things, but forget the most substance of eradicating corruption. It's just the Police, the Prosecutor's Office, the KPK translates the direction of Pak Prabowo in accordance with the laws and applicable laws," he continued.

Habiburokhman also asked Mahfud MD not to make incitement statements, so that the public sees President Prabowo as a violation of the law.

"So Mr. Mahfud, don't incite that Mr. Prabowo teaches to violate the law and so on," he concluded.

Previously, Mahfud MD admitted that he did not agree with President Prabowo Subianto's plan to impose a peaceful fine on corruptors.

"What is this again, Pak Prabowo's idea to possibly apologize to the corruptors as long as they confessed secretly and returned it to the country secretly. That's wrong," said Mahfud MD at the MD Initiative office, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, December 26.

"The corruption law does not justify that, the criminal law does not justify that," he continued.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court wonders why the Prabowo government has a plan to make peace with corruptors. Mahfud even assessed that Prabowo's ministers in charge of the legal sector often look for arguments or the right article regarding what the president said.

"Then the minister is looking for a just argument. It is in the prosecutor's law, a peaceful fine. The peace fine is only for economic crimes. In accordance with the law on customs, tax laws, and customs laws," he said.
