Mahfud MD Explains New Reason For BLBI Task Force: We Just Became a Government

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal And Security Politics Mahfud MD explained why the new government formed the Task Force on Handling State Bill of Rights of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance Fund (BLBI Task Force). There are two reasons that he put forward and one of them is because the current government is just running.

"Now some are asking, why did the Government just act? The answer is easy because we have just become a government", Mahfud said in a press conference after the BLBI Task Force meeting that was posted on the YouTube account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday, April 15.

This case did happen and always get handling by the previous administration and involving three previous presidents. "First, Mr. Harto (the 2nd President of Indonesia, Soeharto) was the one who made and formed BPPN (National Bank Restructuring Agency)", he said.

"Then Mr. Habibie (Indonesia's 3rd President, BJ Habibie) who implemented BLBI in 1998, and Mrs. Mega (Indonesia's 5th President, Megawati Soekarnoputri) who issued SKL Certificate of Settlement) in 2004. Everything is true, there is no criminality", added the former Chairman of the Constitutional Court.

The second reason said Mahfud, this billing was only done because previously there were still criminal cases running. The purpose of the criminal case is the alleged corruption of the issuance of SKL handled by the Corruption Eradication Commission and finally stopped with the issuance of an Investigation Stop Order (SP3).

"If (the government, red) act, then there is a penalty, right?. Well, now there is no criminal case", said Mahfud.

"So based on April 2021 (the issuance of SP3 BLBI case, red), there is no more case. Well, the SP3 problem, the government then formed a collection task force because the bill was large", he added.

The amount of billing that will be carried out by this task force reaches IDR110,454,809,645,467.

"The Minister of Finance has aired, yes, this amount of money to be charged for credit assets, this amount is in the form of shares, the amount in the form of property, such amount in rupiah and the form of savings, the amount in the form of foreign money savings and so on", she concluded.
