JAKARTA - Russian missile attacks killed one person and damaged buildings in the capital Ukraine during rush hour in the morning.

Residents in the city center heard loud explosions and fires occurring in several buildings, said Serhiy Popko, head of military administration Kyiv.

Photos from the location show the rubble of an office block with broken windows in the city center of Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said one person was killed in the attack. It was reported that 11 people were injured, including five people who were taken to hospital.

Russian troops, which launched a massive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, used eight missiles in the attack including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile and the Iskander/KN-23 ballistic missile, Popko said.

As reported by Reuters on Friday, December 20, the Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down the five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles used to attack the capital.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it had attacked the command center used by the Ukrainian SBU intelligence agency.

The purpose of the attack has been achieved. All targets have been achieved, the ministry said.
