JAKARTA - Floods again soaked the settlements of residents in Cipinang Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta, due to the overflow of Sunter River on Wednesday, April 14, until Thursday, April 15, early morning.

According to one of the officers of PPSU Cipinang Melayu, Agus, the flood that soaked the settlement occurred because of the high intensity of rain yesterday afternoon that caused the Sunter River to overflow.

"Due to rain upstream. Now it has started dissolving", Agus said in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Thursday, April 15.

According to one of the residents affected by the flood, Yati, the overflowing water of Sunter River began to inundate the settlement on Wednesday, April 14, around 6:30 p.m.

As a result of the overflow of the Sunter River, settlement in her home flooded as high as up to one meter.

She was forced to temporarily evacuate to the local RW (Citizens Association) office while waiting for the water to recede. "It's been three times during 2021", said Yati.

The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) helped to suck up the floods that flooded the settlements in Cipinang.

Head of Operations of Sudin Gulkarmat East Jakarta Gatot Sulaeman said that the water level that flooded the settlement was about 60cm.

"The suction is declared complete, there are no puddles in Cipinang", said Gatot Sulaeman.

He added that his party began suctioning on Wednesday, April 14 at around 19.25 WIB and ended on Thursday morning around 02.00 WIB.

No residents were evacuated as a result of the flooding. Nevertheless, Gatot said the suction process had been constrained access to flood sites with heavy traffic conditions.

A total of 45 personnel were deployed to conduct flood suction due to the overflow of the Sunter River in the Cipinang area.

"We deploy one unit of 'light rescue and eight units of quick response", said Gatot.
