Three Times Tumpak Hatorangan Apologizes: Dewas Has Not Been Able To Improve The Integrity Of KPK Leaders

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Tumpak Hatorangan apologized for not being able to improve integrity within his institution. He even apologized three times in a press conference for the 20219-2024 performance report which was held today, Thursday, December 12.

Initially, Tumpak said that the KPK Council was certainly not perfect during five years of work. He also said that his party was responsible for the condition of the anti-corruption commission which based on a number of surveys experienced a decrease in the level of trust and performance.

"We may not be able to increase our integrity to the KPK leadership because it is proven that the KPK leadership has also violated the issue of integrity so that ethical sanctions must be imposed," said Tumpak, who initially had a passionate tone at the ACLC KPK Building, Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 12.

"Maybe we are not able to improve the integrity of the employees up to the KPK leadership. So I think that's our weakness too," he continued.

Tumpak said no matter how much the KPK Council explained its performance for five years, it turned out that many people actually considered it the opposite.

"Therefore, I apologize if we have not been able to succeed," he said.

"I apologize if we still have many shortcomings in carrying out our duties," said Tumpak in a shaking tone.

Furthermore, Tumpak said that the KPK Supervisory Board in the first period certainly had limitations. Moreover, they took office not because of their will or register like the new period.

"We are five people appointed, not applying to become a Council. This is what we can do these five years. Many shortcomings. Please understand. Sorry for all our shortcomings," said Tumpak.

The KPK Supervisory Board only existed after the government ratified the revision of the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019. Furthermore, President Joko Widodo, who was still in office at that time, appointed five people to fill the position.

They are Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean who was later appointed as Chairman of the KPK Council. Then as members, Syamsuddin Haris, Albertina Ho, Harjono, and Artidjo Alkostar were Syamsuddin Haris.

Artidjo was later replaced by Indriyanto Seno Adji for death. The former judge died in February 2021.
