The Opsnal Team of the Narcotics Directorate of the North Sulawesi Police collaborated with the Minahasa Police Narcotics Satres Team to arrest a man suspected of being a suspected drug dealer of methamphetamine in the Minahasa area.

"The suspect with the initials ALB (36) was detained in Tataaran Patar Village, South Tondano District, Minahasa," said Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Michael Irwan Thamsil, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, December 7, 2024.

In addition, he continued, the police also secured a number of evidences, namely seven small packages of crystal methamphetamine with a gross weight of eight grams, 50 clear plastic clips, one cellphone, one glass pipette and one scale.

The arrest of the suspect was based on information from the public about the circulation of methamphetamine in the Minahasa Regency area.

"Receiving this information, the team immediately moved to the scene of the case and arrested the suspect who kept the methamphetamine at his residence. The suspect admitted that the methamphetamine belonged to him and was ready to be circulated," he said.

The man from Manado also admitted that before he was caught, he had circulated 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine on October 20, 2024.

"The perpetrators packaged methamphetamine in small packages and then released the methamphetamine in certain places to be taken by buyers. One small package was sold for Rp. 2.2 million. So the perpetrators and buyers did not meet each other," said Thamsil.

Director of Drug Investigation at the North Sulawesi Police, Kombes Pol Budi Samekto, said the suspect was subject to Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"The sentence of life imprisonment or imprisonment is a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years and a fine of at least Rp. 1 billion and a maximum of Rp. 10 billion," he said.

He also invited the public not to be influenced by drug abuse and play an important role in preventing it.

"Drug abuse can damage our own health, stay away from the dangers of drugs. Therefore, it is necessary to cooperate with all parties so that we can anticipate this and save the future of the children of the nation's next generation," he said.
