Participation Of Jakarta Gubernatorial Election Voters In East Jakarta Decreases, KPU: Only 59.25 Percent Of Attendance At TPS

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta area is one of the low levels of voter participation in the 2024 Pilkada contestation. Based on data from the East Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU), the number of lists of voters at the TPS only reached 59.25 percent.

"Yesterday, we calculated that from the figures present at the TPS, there was a total of 59.25 percent of attendance," said Chairman of the East Jakarta KPU, Tedi Kurnia when confirmed, Tuesday, December 3.

The reason for the decline in public participation in the election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta in the East Jakarta area is still being studied by the East Jakarta KPU.

"The reason we are still reviewing, this is a weakness. We from the institution have socialized to the entire community and even Gen-Z friends," he said.

For Gen-Z circles, Tedi admitted that under the East Jakarta KPU, he had conducted socialization through basketball competitions to all public and private schools. The socialization was carried out massively.

"We have massively and are trying our best. But why did they not attend and did not come to the TPS, we cannot confirm what the reason was," he said.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Bima Arya highlighted the alleged low level of voter participation in the 2024 Pilkada.

Although still waiting for official data from the General Elections Commission (KPU), he acknowledged that there were indications of a decline in participation which was allegedly caused by public saturation with the series of adjacent election processes.

"We are still waiting for official data from the KPU. However, in some areas it appears that there has been a decrease in participation rates. This shows a trend that we need to pay attention to, especially whether the 2024 Pilkada is lower than the presidential election or not," said Bima Arya, Monday, December 2.

According to Bima, one of the reasons for the low enthusiasm of voters is the too close implementation time between legislative elections (Pileg), presidential elections (Pilpres), and regional elections. This factor is suspected to trigger saturation among the public.
