JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) installed gabions on the landslide road in Sinar Marga Village, Mekakau Ilir District, South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, South Sumatra (Sumsel), before filling with soil.
Head of BPBD South OKU, Koni Romli said that the high rainfall that occurred on Sunday, November 17, caused the road to collapse, forming a large hole that endangered road users.
The damage to the main route connecting Banding Agung, Mekakau Ilir, and Pulau Beringin Districts hampered the mobility of residents and threatened the safety of two-wheeled and four-wheeled drivers who crossed the road.
As an effort to overcome this, his party together with the Sinar Marga Village Government installed gabions as road reinforcements before filling with soil so that it is safe for motorized vehicles to pass.
The installation of gabions is an effort to accelerate the repair of damaged infrastructure so that traffic flow can return to normal.
In the repair process, he said, his party deployed one unit of heavy equipment in the form of a mini excavator so that the work was faster, easier and more optimal.
"The process of installing the gabions has been carried out since Tuesday (November 26, 2024). Hopefully the work will be completed soon to be continued with filling so that traffic flow returns to normal," he hoped.
During the repair process, drivers can use alternative roads for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles that were made around the collapsed road.
"We also installed early warning signs so that people remain careful when crossing the route," he said.
