SURABAYA - An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 that shook the Malang Regency, claimed lives. One resident of Lumajang Regency, East Java, died after being hit by a lump of rock on the Lumajang-Malang line.

"There was one person who died, after being hit by a lump of rock. There is also one person in Lumajang with minor injuries", said Kalaksa BPBD East Java, Yanuar Rachmadi, confirmed, Saturday, April 10.

However, Yanuar did not elaborate on the chronological details of the incident. He just said the Malang earthquake resulted in house buildings, public facilities such as mosques, schools, damage even collapsed.

According to him, the damage to the building occurred in several areas in East Java, such as in Malang, Pasuruan, Jember, Lumajang, Trenggalek, Blitar, Gresik, Kediri, and others. For example, in Malang Regency, people's houses and Majangtengah village office was lightly damaged.

Then Baiturohman Mosque Tutur district was damaged, the houses of residents in Malang were damaged moderately to severely.

"But the most severe damage in Malang, and other areas in East Java there is also severe damage. We will tell you the updated data later", he said.

Yanuar said that the Malang earthquake was felt by people in almost all areas in East Java. Among others, Malang, Blitar, Kediri, Trenggalek, Jombang, Sidoarjo, Surabaya, Bangkalan, Sampang, Sumenep, Pamekasan, Madiun, Ponorogo, Pacitan, Batu, Tuban, Nganjuk, Ngawi, and Gresik.
