6.7 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Malang

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 shook Malang Regency, East Java. The earthquake was felt strongly by a number of residents living in the vicinity of the site.

In its written statement, the Meteorological Agency for Geophysical Climatology (BMKG) reported the earthquake occurred around 14.00 WIB. The coordinates of the earthquake occurred at 8.95 South Latitude and 112.48 East Longitude.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at sea with a distance of 90 km from the southwest of Malang Regency, with a depth of 25 km. This earthquake did not cause a potential tsunami.

A number of netizens stated that the tremors were felt in Surabaya and Yogyakarta.
