JAKARTA - A fire engulfed a nursing home in the city of Villafranca del Ebro in northern Spain. 10 people were reported dead.

The fire started at an elderly residence called "Jardines de Villafranca" at around 5 am, Friday, November 15 local time.

"It took several hours for firefighters to extinguish it," a local government spokesman told Reuters.

The authorities have not been able to specify whether all the victims are residents of the nursing home that houses the 82 elderly.

One person is in critical condition, while several people are being treated for suffering from smoke.

Firefighters were deployed from the Zaragoza area. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
