Beware Of Landslide Potential In 12 South Jakarta-Jaktim Districts This Month

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) asked the public to be aware of the potential for landslides in 12 sub-districts in South Jakarta and East Jakarta this month.

Head of DKI Jakarta BPBD Isnawa Adji revealed that the estimated area of potential ground movement was prepared based on the results of the overlap (overlay) between the map of the vulnerability zone of ground movement and the monthly rainfall forecast map.

"According to information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), several areas in DKI Jakarta Province are in the middle zone," Isnawa said in his statement, quoted on Friday, November 15.

In the middle zone, continued Isnawa, ground movements can occur if the rainfall above is normal, especially in areas bordering river valleys, gawir, road cliffs or if slopes experience disruption.

While in the high zone, the old ground movement can be reactivated.

"For this reason, the village head, sub-district head, and the community are advised to continue to anticipate the potential for ground movement when the rainfall is above normal," he said.

In addition, Isnawa reminded the public to be more alert to the potential for collapsed buildings, especially during the rainy season.

The incident of collapsed buildings is generally triggered by extreme weather factors, such as heavy rain and strong winds, which increase the risk of damage to building structures that are already fragile or not well maintained, this is also added if there is a shift in land.

"People need to pay attention to the condition of their buildings, especially those that are old or damaged, and immediately make improvements or strengthening structures so as not to cause danger," added Isnawa.
