YOGYAKARTA - Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwowo X instructed regents/mayors to optimize supervision of the circulation of alcoholic beverages by involving community components up to the RT/RW level.

The directive is contained in the Governor's Instruction (Ingub) DIY Number 5 of 2024 concerning Optimization of Control and Supervision of Alcoholic Drinks signed by Sultan HB X on Wednesday, October 30.

"Involving and optimizing the role of the village, village, RT, RW, Protecting Citizens, and other elements of society in controlling and supervising alcoholic drinks," said Sultan in the Ingub addressed to regents/mayors throughout DIY.

Sultan also asked the regent/mayor to immediately form an alcoholic beverage control team by optimizing the role of the regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda).

In addition, he instructed regional heads to invest in alcoholic beverage sellers in their respective regions.

"Inventory of direct sellers, retailers, producers, registered importers of alcoholic beverages, distributors, sub-distributors, duty-free shops, as well as other business actors who carry out trafficking, sales, and/or storing alcoholic beverages," said Sultan as quoted by ANTARA.

The King of the Yogyakarta Palace requested that the circulation, sale, or storage of alcoholic beverages be ensured in accordance with the legislation, including having permits, not in prohibited places, and business actors are prohibited from selling alcoholic beverages to consumers aged less than 21 years.

"Sales of alcoholic beverages are prohibited online, including prohibited by means of an delivery service system," he said.

The Governor of Yogyakarta also asked regional heads to control and enforce the law against any violation of the provisions for the circulation, sale, and/or storage of alcoholic beverages.

"Conducting analysis and evaluation of regional legal products related to the control and supervision of alcoholic beverages, including accelerating the preparation of regional legal products needed in the context of controlling and supervising alcoholic beverages in their regions," he added.

In the Ingub, the Sultan also ordered the regent/mayor to immediately report the implementation of the Ingub to him no later than 15 working days from effective as of October 30, 2024.

DIY Regional Secretary (Sekda) Beny Suharsono explained that in principle the regent/mayor is obliged to implement the Ingub by making legal products or derivative regulations that are in harmony.

"Maybe the instructions in the city of Yogyakarta are not the same exactly, but the essence of the essence of the bag must be obtained from Ingub Number 5 of 2024," said Beny.
