JAKARTA - North Korea launched about 20 balloons containing propaganda leaflets criticizing South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The South Korean military said they found more than 10 packages of garbage containing leaflets in the Seoul area on Thursday, October 24.

Lebaran, which contains criticisms of Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon Hee, was also found in the presidential complex.

No harmful substances were detected from the garbage.

"North Korea must immediately stop its actions from sending such harsh leaflets. We once again warn that all responsibilities are in North Korea's hands," the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

The launch of the balloon filled with trash and propaganda came after Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, claimed that Pyongyang discovered and removed the "political motivational waste" sent by Seoul earlier this week.

Since late May, North Korea has launched thousands of balloons filled with trash in retaliation for anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflets sent across the border by activists in South Korea.

The last time such balloons were launched was on Saturday (19/10).

In response to the launch, the South Korean military broadcast anti-North Korea propaganda through loudspeakers along the border since July. Seoul refrained from shooting down the balloons, citing security.
