Remember Bahar Smith? The Case Was Beating A Taxi Driver Until He Was Battered In The Bandung District Court

JAKARTA - The Bandung District Court (PN), West Java, began holding the Bahar Smith trial, Tuesday, April 5. Bahar was charged in the case of maltreatment of an online taxi driver with the initials A in 2018.

The West Java High Prosecutor (Kejati), Sukanda, said that Bahar was charged with jointly carrying out the mistreatment until the victim was injured. Bahar underwent the trial online from the Gunung Sindur Prison, Bogor, Tuesday, April 5.

"The defendant openly and with collective energy used violence against people or property, if the violence used resulted in injuries," said Prosecutor Jabar Sukanda.

The prosecutor explained that the incident was allegedly carried out by Bahar and his colleague named Wiro. However, Wiro himself is still in the status of being searched by the police.

According to the prosecutor, the incident occurred at Bahar's residence in Bukit Cimanggu Housing Complex, Tanah Sereal District, Bogor City in September 2018.

In this case, Bahar was charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code paragraph (2) 1 concerning violence in the first indictment and Article 351 of the Criminal Code paragraph 2 concerning maltreatment in conjunction with Article 55.

The case of mistreating the taxi driver was the second case that ensnared this figure from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). Currently Bahar is currently serving his sentence at Mount Sindur, due to a different case of persecution.

Previously in 2019, Bahar underwent a trial also related to the persecution of two teenagers. As a result of that case, Bahar was sentenced to three years in prison.
