Extreme Weather Due To Seroja Tropical Cyclone, Jokowi Asks For BMKG To Promote Early Warning

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked to continue to anticipate the dangers of extreme weather in the country.

He also asked the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to intensify extreme weather warnings due to sacred tropical cyclones.

He conveyed this when giving directions in a limited meeting to discuss disaster management in NTB and NTT Provinces via a video conference at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

"I ask for anticipation of the continued danger of extreme weather occurring in various regions in Indonesia and I also ask the BMKG to intensify warnings about extreme weather due to this sacred tropical cyclone," said Jokowi as broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, April 6.

So that each regional head and the community can anticipate the dangers of extreme weather, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta also asked BMKG to ensure that all available information can be accessed and monitored easily.

The goal, so that all parties can increase their awareness of the dangers of aftershocks due to extreme weather that occurs.

"They must know everything so that people can increase their preparedness and vigilance to face the threat of risks, both strong winds, floods and landslides," he said.

He said, during this week, the sacred tropical cyclone had indeed been felt in various regions in Indonesia. "Especially in NTT Province and NTB Province which experienced the greatest impact," he said.

Furthermore, President Jokowi conveyed a number of things to his staff regarding disaster management in the two provinces. Among these are the acceleration of infrastructure improvements, starting from road access to restoring electricity, communication and fuel oil (BBM) networks.

In addition, Jokowi also ordered his staff to accelerate the evacuation process of disaster victims that occurred in the two provinces.
