Bawaslu Asked To Take Action On Mode For Basic Necessities In The 2024 Pilkada

JAKARTA - Researcher of the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Iqbal Kholidin asked the distribution of social assistance in the form of basic necessities not to be used as a campaign tool in the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada) contestation.

According to him, this is a form of violation in the election. The misuse of social assistance is also categorized as money politics.

"For basic necessities, use state facilities such as various kinds of social assistance sourced from the APBN/APBD, the category of money politics during the election. Especially distributing money such as assistance, goods and others," Iqbal told reporters, Friday, October 18.

Moreover, the form of abuse is like the distribution of basic necessities accompanied by photos of candidate pairs contesting the Pilkada.

Regarding money politics, said Iqbal, when it becomes an unfinished problem at every moment of the democratic party in Indonesia. The practice of bribing people's choices becomes a classic problem in every democratic party event.

"There needs to be firm action from the election organizers, namely Bawaslu, to impose sanctions on the candidate pairs who are caught giving social assistance. People who also see and know must report the matter to Bawaslu," said Iqbal.

The action of distributing basic necessities suspected of being election violations was carried out by the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government (Central Kalimantan Provincial Government). Thousands of food packages continue to be distributed throughout the region in Central Kalimantan by Governor Sugianto Sabran.

The food packages distributed consisted of 10 kilograms of rice, 1 kilogram of sugar, and 1 liter of cooking oil with a value of IDR 198,500 per package.

Each recipient of the basic food package receives a subsidy from the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government of Rp. 178,500 so that the community only redeems Rp. 20,000 per package.

Regarding this, Sugianto Sabran spoke up. According to him, the action of distributing basic necessities packaged in cheap markets is to control inflation and maintain stable prices for basic necessities and even to prevent stunting.
