The Current Value Of Social Assistance Is Not Enough, Pramono Promises To Give Business Capital For Persons With Disabilities

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Candidate number 3 Pramono Anung promised to provide business capital for Jakarta residents who are people with disabilities if they win the Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Pramono admitted that he had had a dialogue with disability groups. They, according to Pramono, need capital assistance from the government to work or run their business.

"They don't have the capital to work and if they are of course not assisted, it will definitely be like this. So, the capital for people with disabilities will be considered to be given that," Pramono told reporters, quoted on Tuesday, October 15.

Currently, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has a social assistance program (bansos), namely the Jakarta Disability Card (KPDJ). The KPDJ was launched by former DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan. The disability group receiving KPDJ received Rp300 thousand in funds through bank accounts.

KPDJ is distributed to help people with disabilities to meet basic needs, as well as prevent persons with disabilities from the risk of shocks and social vulnerabilities.

However, Pramono assessed that the KPDJ was not enough to meet the needs of people with disabilities.

"Yes, if we look at it (KPDJ) it's not enough because most of them I meet in their real life, (KPDJ assistance) may not be enough. Don't accept it as expected," said Pramono.

Thus, the former Cabinet Secretary assessed that the addition of capital assistance could make it easier for people with disabilities to work.

"The most important thing is that they, when they have disabilities, must be educated to want to work. So that they don't just rely on a card from the government if they want to work. Especially for those who are married, that's very important," he added.
