East Flores Flash Flood Update: 41 People Dead, 27 Still Missing

JAKARTA - Head of Disaster Data and Communication Committee of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Raditya Jati explained the development of victims of the flash flood disaster in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Raditya said that while 41 people had died, 9 people were injured, 27 people were missing, and 49 families were affected.

"This data is very dynamic, we are re-verifying it. This is data as of 17.30 WIB," Raditya said in a broadcast on YouTube BNPB Indonesia, Sunday, April 4.

Raditya said, there were 4 sub-districts that were affected and 7 villages in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province that were affected by flash floods.

These areas are Nelelamadike Village in Ile Boleng District, Waiwerang Village and Waiburak Village in East Adonara District, Oyang Barang Village and Pandai Village in Wotan Ulumado District, Waiwadan Village and Duwanur Village in West Adonara District.

"The temporary material losses were recorded that there were dozens of houses buried under mud in Lamanele Village, Ile Boleng District, local residents were swept away by floods, five bridges were broken, and dozens of houses were still flooded in West Adonara District," explained Raditya.

The local government has held a limited meeting between the Regent, TNI, Polri and related agencies. One of them is the establishment of an emergency response post.

Unfortunately, there is one obstacle, namely the difficulty of sea crossing access to Adonara Island. This is because rain, wind and high waves mean that shipping is not allowed by the local authorities.

"BNPB continues to coordinate with BPBD of East Flores Regency and monitor emergency handling. If aid mobilization is needed, BNPB is ready to mobilize resources," he explained.
