Flash Flood In East Flores, Five People Died

JAKARTA - There was a flash flood in East Flores Regency on Sunday, April 4 at 01.00 local time. The East Flores Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that at least five residents died as a result of this incident.

Head of the Disaster Management Center for Disaster Management of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Raditya Jati, said the areas affected by flash floods were in two villages, namely Lamanele Village in Ile Boleng District and Waiburak Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.

"The East Flores BPBD is still collecting data in the field regarding victims of death and injuries. Field officers are still handling the post-incident emergency that occurred in the early hours of the morning," Raditya said in his statement, Sunday, April 4.

Meanwhile, in addition to five people who died, BPBD noted that 5 residents of Lamanele Village and 4 residents of Waiburak Village were injured. Then, 20 people were affected by this hydometeorological disaster.

As a result of this disaster, dozens of houses were buried in mud in Lamanele Village. There are also residents' houses that were washed away by the flood. In addition, the bridge in Waiburak Village was broken.

Raditya said the local government had held a limited meeting between the Regent, TNI, Polri and related agencies. One of them is the establishment of an emergency response post.

Unfortunately, there is one obstacle, namely the difficulty of sea crossing access to Adonara Island. This is because rain, wind and high waves mean that shipping is not allowed by the local authorities.

"BNPB continues to coordinate with BPBD of East Flores Regency and monitor emergency handling. If aid mobilization is needed, BNPB is ready to mobilize resources," he said.

In this regard, BMKG predicts the potential for extreme weather in the form of heavy rain, very heavy winds and high waves in the next week in some parts of Indonesia.

In the next week the potential for moderate to heavy rain is predicted to occur in areas, including Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, South Sumatra, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, North Kalimantan. , Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.

Meanwhile, the potential for very heavy rain is predicted to occur in South Sulawesi, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara and NTT. The potential for strong winds is predicted to occur in Lampung, Banten, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, NTT and South Sulawesi.
