Jokowi's Design Of A New State Palace In The Shape Of A Garuda Bird: Full Of Unifying Philosophy

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) shows off the pre-designed State Palace in the form of an eagle. The plan is for this palace to be built in the new capital, namely in Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan.

Jokowi said the design was the work of Nyoman Nuarat, a well-known sculpture artist and full of the philosophical meaning of the nation.

"His proposal is filled with the philosophy of the Garuda bird symbol as unifying the nation according to the motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta, as quoted from his Instagram account @jokowi, Saturday, April 3.

Even so, he said the design was not final because it was still in the pre-design stage. This design is one of the many proposals submitted to the Ministry of PUPR.

At that time, the ministry, which was led by Basuki Hadimuljono, indeed invited a number of architects and artists to provide input and ideas regarding iconic buildings in the new nation's capital.

Furthermore, he wanted the new state palace to be more than just a building where the president worked. "But it also reflects the progress of the nation," he said.

So, in the future, he hopes that many parties will provide input on the pre-design of the State Palace by Nyoman Nuarta. He also promised to invite back architects and sineman to discuss funding for the pre-design of the State Palace.

"With these inputs, I will invite the architects and other experts back to enrich the pre-design to become the basis for the design of the State Palace," he said.
