Jember Police arrested YD who is strongly suspected of being the mastermind behind the robbery of bank customers worth Rp. 400 million.

YD, who came from Banten, West Java, was arrested after being a fugitive for his crimes in the Jember Regency, East Java in August 2023," said Jember Police Chief AKBP Bayu Pratama Gubunagi as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 2.

Suspect YD is a member of a network of inter-provincial bank customers.

During the action, he continued, YD carried out a robbery with three of his colleagues by stealing Rp. 400 million from a bank customer in Balung District, Jember Regency.

"The crime occurred in August last year, where the victim was a woman who had just taken Rp400 million from the bank," he said.

Based on witness testimony, the money was taken by four perpetrators when the victim was careless. Three of the four perpetrators have previously been arrested and are currently undergoing the sentencing process at the Class II-A Jember Correctional Institution (Lapas).

"However, YD, who is the mastermind of the crime, was only arrested in Serang, Banten. The network of robbers is not only operating in Jember, but also in several other provinces," he said.

YD is known as a person who did not hesitate to injure the victim in carrying out his actions, but the victim did not suffer physical injuries in the case that occurred in Jember.

"YD is part of an inter-provincial crime network and there are three colleagues from different areas, namely South Sumatra and Blitar, East Java. They are a syndicate that often follows bank customers until the victim is careless," he said.

Bayu explained that the YD network has been operating in various provinces and every time they commit crimes in an area, the perpetrators often return to their respective domicile.

"We continue to develop to resolve other cases. For this crime, YD was charged with Article 363 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with a weighted penalty of a maximum of nine years in prison," he said.
