Today, Former US President Jimmy Carter Celebrates 100th Anniversary

JAKARTA - Former US President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday on Tuesday or today Wednesday 2 September WIB, making him the first former president of the United States (US) to live to a century.

This achievement adds to Carter's list of achievements, who was previously the first US president to be born in hospital and the only United States Navy Academy graduate to serve as president.

The Georgian Democrat and peanut farmer are also the third president to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded for his efforts to end the international conflict peacefully.

Carter remains active until the mid-1990s, working with the housing organization 'Habitat for Humanity' and his NGO, Carter Center.

He was often seen at the site of the 'Habitat for Humanity' house until the 2010s, along with his volunteers and staff.

"Carter is a symbol of leadership and compassion, inspiring people around the world," Carter Center said in a statement.

"President Carter's legacy continues to inspire hopes and progress around the world. His a century-long life is proof of the strength of service, and the Carter Center is a lasting reminder of his commitment to peace, health and human rights," he added.

Carter has spent nearly two years in palliative care to improve her quality of life.

US President Joe Biden, 19 years younger than Carter, ordered the installation of billboards in the northern courtyard of the White House to celebrate the achievement of Carter's age.

The billboard display will be displayed throughout the day.

Carter was born on October 1, 1924 in Plains, Georgia, and remains an active member of society until he underwent Palliative treatment 20 months ago.

His wife, Rosalynn Carter, died in November 2023.
