Today, BMKG Predicts A Number Of Areas With The Potential For Heavy Rain Accompanied By Strong Winds

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning to a number of areas in Indonesia that have the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds on Friday.

In an early weather warning quoted from Antara, BMKG predicted areas that could potentially experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, such as in Aceh, Bali, Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, Jambi, West Java (Jabar), East Java (Jatim), North Kalimantan. (Kaltara), West Kalimantan (Kalbar), Central Kalimantan (Kalteng), East Kalimantan (Kaltim), and South Kalimantan (South Kalimantan).

Then Lampung, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), South Sulawesi (Sulsel), Southeast Sulawesi (Central Sulawesi), North Sulawesi (Sulut), West Sumatra (West Sumatra), South Sumatra (Sumsel), Papua , and West Papua.

Specifically for the DKI Jakarta area, BMKG warned the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning / lightning in the areas of North Jakarta, Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands at night and early morning.

Whereas in West Java, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds has the potential to occur in Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Sukabumi, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, Bandung Raya, Cimahi, Kuningan, Garut, Banjar, Sumedang, Pangandaran, and Majalengka in afternoon / evening until early morning.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the period of transition from the rainy to the dry season.

He said that a common characteristic of weather conditions during the season transition period is the relatively rapid change in weather conditions. In the morning the weather is usually hot, but when entering the afternoon, high intensity rain often occurs with a short duration.

"During the season transition period, there are several extreme weather phenomena that must be watched out for, namely heavy rains of short duration which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds, tornadoes, waterspouts, and hail," said Guswanto.
