Jakarta Has Implemented Large-Scale Social Restrictions Status Since 2 Weeks Ago

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo ordered local governments to implement large-scale social restrictions. Especially in DKI Jakarta, social restrictions have been running for two weeks.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said, gradually, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has carried out the mandate of Article 59 of Law Number 6 of 2018 concerning Health Quarantine.

"Article 59 paragraph 3 mentions school and work vacations, restrictions on religious activities, then activities in public places and public facilities. This is an example of what we have been doing for the past 2 weeks," said Anies at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday , March 30th.

The tightening of large-scale social restrictions in Jakarta began on March 14. At that time, Anies closed teaching and learning activities at schools, starting at the kindergarten, elementary, junior high and high school / vocational school levels in all areas of DKI Jakarta for two weeks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Then, on March 19, Anies stopped religious activities such as Friday prayers at mosques, worshiping at churches, temples and temples. This halt of worship activities lasted for two weeks.

Then, on March 23, Anies called for offices in Jakarta to temporarily close for 14 days. He appealed to companies to instruct their employees to work at home or work from home (WFH).

On the same day, Anies closed 17 entertainment venues, following the stipulation of Jakarta's emergency response to the COVID-19 disaster. The closure of these entertainment venues will take effect from March 23 to April 5.

Therefore, Anies feels that Jakarta must move even faster in preventing the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Because, to this day, the number of positive cases of the corona virus in DKI Jakarta is 720 cases, 48 people have been declared cured, and 76 people have died.

Therefore, Anies sent a request for regional quarantine aimed at preventing the spread of the corona virus or COVID-19 in his area. The letter numbered 143 dated 28 March 2020 and was received by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Sunday, 29 March.

"In our proposal, we mention several sectors that are still active. First is energy, second is food, third is health, fourth is communication and fifth is finance," he said.

However, there is no certainty yet. Anies said that all decisions regarding the lockdown in Jakarta remain in the hands of Jokowi as the head of state.

"The decision regarding regional quarantine lies with the central government. We in Jakarta only submitted a letter related to it. If we take steps, we prepare all scenarios," he added.
