PDIP Legislators Ask NU And Muhammadiyah To Be Involved As Anchors For De-radicalization

JAKARTA - Member of the DPR from the PDIP faction, Muchamad Nabil Haroen, said the attempt to attack the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday afternoon, March 31, was an "alarm" for all parties to raise awareness.

According to him, intelligence early detection is increasingly important and crucial to maintain state security.

In addition, Nabil assessed that the strategy for dealing with terrorists and extremists must also be reviewed.

"Has the handling of radical groups subsequently led to extremism and even terrorism have been carried out properly," said Nabil, Thursday, April 1.

Therefore, the DPR Commission IX member asked the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) not only to use a security approach in an effort to de-radicalize. However, it is also necessary to use a gradual to comprehensive approach to education.

Nabil also suggested that pesantren, both from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, could be involved as anchors for deradicalization.

"Indonesia must rise as a peaceful country and spread prosperity to all its citizens," said the General Chairperson of the Pagar Nusa NU Central Board.

In this condition, Nabil also appealed to the public to remain calm. He hopes that the Police and state intelligence agencies can move quickly to anticipate acts of terrorism.

"Don't let us lose to extremist groups," said Nabil.
