Saudi Urges System Reform At The United Nations To Create A Fair And Equal World Order

JAKARTA - Saudi Arabia calls for reforms to the system in the United Nations (UN) to create a fairer and equal world order.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan at his assessment of the current system in international institutions.

"Not in accordance with its goals," said Faisal in a speech at the UN forum at the UN headquarters in New York, United States (US), Monday, September 23 local time, quoted from Arab News.

Faisal said that one day after UN member states adopted "Pact for the Future", calls for the multilateralism system to be returned from the brink of collapse and support to achieve the organization's sustainable development goals.

"We are doing this, because we believe we need to do everything to build a better world, a greener world," he said.

"We must also promote multilateralism in order to effectively face current challenges and challenges of the future, achieving peace and security for the benefit of future generations," continued Faisal.

Faisal said the pact was in line with fundamental principles. According to him, to achieve its goals, more efforts are needed to face various challenges and achieve the fulfillment of the needs of people around the world.

This pact marks a qualitative step forward in multilateral action. This pact promises a just and equal world order, a world order that promotes the implementation of SDGs and meets the needs of all countries, especially developing countries," said Faisal.

"This is a pact calling for the closure of the digital divide, and which is also promoting economic development in developing countries," he continued.

To strengthen multilateral cooperation and a bright future, said Faisal, reforms are needed in the UN system

"As part of the urgent issue, the UN must be reconstructed to assume its responsibility in upholding international peace and security," said Faisal.
