SUMEDANG - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sumedang Regency, West Java, noted that 16 houses were damaged due to the land movement disaster that hit Tanjungwangi Village, Tanjungmedar District.

All residents must evacuate to avoid the threat of disaster.

"We have carried out an 'assessment' of 16 houses that may be threatened in connection with the movement of land in that location," said Sumedang Regency BPBD Secretary Iwan Hermawan as quoted by Antara, Monday, March 29.

Iwan said that the movement of the land had occurred frequently. The impact of the incident caused damage to residents' houses and local community lands.

The houses that are directly affected by the movement of the land, he said, are quite far from the houses of other residents in the village so that the threat of danger to the residents there is not too widespread.

"A total of 16 houses are in condition where there are really cracks, there are houses that don't have many cracks but the land on the edge of the house is already cracked," continued Iwan.

From the results of reports in the field, the condition of the residents' houses is located on a dangerous and high enough slope so that it is advisable to evacuate to avoid the danger of disastrous ground movement.

All residents who live in the house, he said, while living in refuge in a sports building owned by the local village, there are also living in a relative's house which is safe from the threat of disaster.

"There are 63 people from the 16 houses that we have emptied, and are reminded of the residents not to occupy them anymore because they have big enough potential, while we are placing them in the village gorge," he said.

Meanwhile, the Sumedang Regency Government has prepared logistical needs as well as other necessities needed by residents while living in the refugee camps.

The local government also, he said, would relocate all houses affected by the land movement disaster. The realization is waiting for the results of a study from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).

"We are coordinating for the relocation plan, and we have also sent a letter to the Geological Agency, we are just waiting, hopefully there will be a team as soon as possible," he said.
