JAKARTA - The suicide bombing in Makassar, South Sulawesi, is considered evidence of the failure of the government's deradicalisation and contradiction activities.

Not only that, Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS) researcher Khairul Fahmi also questioned efforts to counter terrorism in Indonesia.

"Law enforcement and enforcement are without a deterrent effect, but make the public continue to ask what is wrong with countering terrorism," Khairul told reporters in Jakarta, Monday, March 29.

He said, currently there are many activities and programs entitled deradicalization, contradiction to national dialogue as a recipe for preventing acts of terrorism in the community. It's just that this method is considered a failure because the bomb terror that departs from propaganda and incitement is still happening.

"However, a series of attacks of extreme violence from time to time provide evidence that the recipe still fails to prevent terror from continuing to haunt it," he said.

Even so, Fahmi assessed that in this case the security forces did not mean that they were conceded. According to him, detecting terror threats and determining when and where attacks occur are difficult.

Even if the detection of a terrorist attack is successful, the security apparatus can only provide a warning and raise awareness. This, he continued, was successfully carried out in Makassar yesterday.

"We see that the explosion did not occur at the desired point because the perpetrator failed to enter the church yard after being prevented by the local security guard," Fahmi said.

"This is a form of vigilance that should be appreciated and as we all know, the explosion also did not cause large casualties and material losses," he added.
