TANJUNG SELOR - Provincial Government (Pemprov) of North Kalimantan (Kaltara) through the Social Service (Dinsos) is committed to improving the community's economy for underprivileged residents.

One of them is through a social assistance program that includes Productive Economic Business (UEP) and Joint Business Groups (KUBE).

Head of the Kaltara Social Service Agency Obed Daniel said that currently the realization of the two programs' social assistance has reached 90 percent.

"The distribution of this assistance has been given to 26 KUBE groups and 77 UEP individuals. We hope this assistance can be a stimulant for recipients to develop their business and improve their standard of living," said Obed, Thursday, September 5.

The focus of this program is to ensure that the assistance provided is right on target and has a direct impact on improving the community's economy.

"The realization of the budget for KUBE reached Rp. 320 million, while for UEP individuals it was Rp. 220 million," he said.

Obed emphasized that his party had proposed additional budget for the revised APBD, in order to expand the coverage of beneficiaries in the future.

The distribution of beneficiaries in Kaltara covers several areas, focusing on Bulungan, Malinau, and Tana Tidung Regencies. Meanwhile, in Nunukan Regency, the process of making the recipient's account book is still ongoing.

Tarakan City is an area that dominates the number of recipients of individual UEP assistance. Obed also emphasized the importance of the sustainability of this program.

"This assistance, although the nominal is limited, is expected to have a sustainable impact on the community's economy. We are trying so that this assistance does not only reach the recipients, but can also encourage them to continue to develop," he said.

In the future, the Kaltara Social Service Office hopes to increase the budget allocation for the UEP and KUBE programs, so that more and more people can benefit from this program.

"Thus, social assistance is not only a temporary solution, but also the foundation for long-term economic growth in North Kalimantan," he said.
