Two Solo Safari Collection Elephants Died Due To Infection

SOLO - Two elephants from the Solo Safari collection died due to infection with the liver and endotheliotropic ellipticalfuseviruses (EEEHV).

President Director of Taru Jurug Animal Park (TSTJ) Ahmad Syukri Prihanto said that with the deaths of the two elephants named Inova and Manohara, currently there are two elephant collections in Solo Safari.

Ahmad said that previously the results of the observations had been sent to the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

"So there is information from the laboratory. Initially there were allegations because of animal welfare, lack of playing, disease, and due to feed. However, after being taken to the laboratory, the results were purely due to disease, contracting the virus," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 2.

Related to this, his party carried out a number of evaluation steps, one of which increased the number of medical teams, namely veterinarians.

"There is a specialist doctor. We have added a specialist veterinarian for elephant wildlife. There is a doctor Novi from the Safari Park Study Center," he said.

He said the specialist was specifically to monitor special animals, including elephants.

In addition, his party has also increased supervision of environmental conditions considering that the weather is currently hot.

"This condition affects feed. It must be fresh feed so that they are comfortable like in their natural habitat," he said.
