Jokowi Calls For Renewable Global Development For Justice

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) calls for the need for renewal in the direction and vision of global development to achieve fairer and more inclusive results, especially for developing countries.

In his speech when opening the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum at the Mulia Nusa Dua Hotel, Bali, Monday, September 2, Jokowi emphasized the importance of facing challenges such as economic slowdown, unemployment, inflation, and geopolitical tensions that have a broad impact on global life and supply chains.

"In this context, we need new directions and visions, new strategies, and new tactical steps to realize fairer and more inclusive development for developing countries," he said, followed by the Presidential Secretariat network in Jakarta.

According to Jokowi, the current situation has shown a decline in international solidarity and the increasing number of fragmentation, which in the end is the most disadvantaged developing countries.

"But what is very unfortunate is that at times like this, international solidarity has actually decreased, the spirit of multiculturalism is increasingly being ruled out, and fragmentation is widening," he said.

He also highlighted the fact that many developing people are facing serious difficulties, while achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target is still far from expectations with only 17 percent reaching by 2030.

Jokowi's statement became the starting point for forums to find collective and innovative solutions to overcome global challenges and achieve more equitable progress.

Meanwhile, a number of leaders of African countries were present at the 2nd Multi-Party Partnership High Level Forum (HLF MSP) and the Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF), which was held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on September 1-3, 2024.

They include the President of the Ghana Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame, the President of the Liberian Republic Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Prime Minister Eswatini Russell Mmiso Dlamini.

Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusm Badminton, and Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Kembo Dugish Campbell Muleya Mohadi.
