JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) ensured that a rapid reaction team had been dispatched to overcome and provide assistance to flood victims who submerged two villages in Sanggau, West Kalimantan, Saturday evening.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in Jakarta, Saturday, said that in the report received, 214 families of flood victims needed treatment and at least 175 houses and one house of worship were submerged.

The victims were residents of Balai Village. They reportedly still survive in their respective homes which were flooded with a height of 15 centimeters-2 meters, since Friday (30/8).

He explained that the Sanggau BPBD rapid reaction team under the BNPB assessment and the local district government are currently still trying to reach the two villages whose locations are difficult to access.

The team that was deployed was equipped with various aid equipment, such as rubber boats, communication tools, and logistics basic needs to be given to each family of flood victims.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that Sanggau Regency will still have the potential to experience moderate-intensity rain in the next few days. For this reason, BNPB appealed to the people of Sanggau Regency in general to remain vigilant and quickly carry out independent evacuations if necessary because these conditions could potentially cause further flooding.
