Hamas Send Delegations To Cairo But Don't Want Direct Participation

Hamas has sent delegations to Cairo to review negotiations with Israel. The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on Saturday afternoon to resume talks on the exchange of hostages and ceasefires in the Gaza Strip.

However, The Guardian reported on Saturday, August 24, one of the Hamas envoys admitted that his party would not participate directly in the negotiations Hamas had boycotted for the past 10 days.

Previously, the United States (US) through the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, claimed that negotiations would materialize and had received Israeli approval and waited for Hamas to accept. But so far there have been no details on what the US claims.

In the negotiations in Cairo, the US was represented by the directors of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, and the US special envoy to the region, Brett McGurk.

While seeing the opportunity for the negotiations to bring results seems small as Netanyahu insists on continuing the military offensive in Gaza.

In addition, Netanyahu also wants Israel to continue to control strategic areas such as the Philadelphi Corridor and the Netzarim Intersection, which separates the northern and southern regions of the Palestinian enclave.

According to Gaza health authorities, more than 40,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks. In recent weeks, Israel has issued more and more evacuation orders against Palestinians in Gaza, almost all of whom have fled several times as a result of the attack and living in emergency camps.
