BOGOR - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation (Dirjen Hubdat) continues to strive to reduce the number of traffic accidents and road damage caused by Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) truck offenders. In addition to normalization, the Ministry of Transportation also does not hesitate to impose imprisonment for naughty drivers and goods transport entrepreneurs.

This is stated in Article 277 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation (LLAJ), which reads:

"Anyone who enters a motorized vehicle, trailer and attached carriage into the territory of the Republic of Indonesia, manufactures, assembles, or modifies which causes a change in type, trailer, attached carriage, and special vehicles operated domestically that do not fulfill the test obligation type, is sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 1 year or a maximum fine of Rp 24,000,000 ".

Therefore, the Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi, of the Motor Vehicle Weighing Implementation Unit (UPPKB), is firm in taking action against ODOL trucks. Moreover, the rampant overloaded trucks can result in accidents and road damage.

"As we all know, transportation is the lifeblood of the economy. We are aware that the impact of ODOL violations is increasingly being felt, in order to make this happen, all UPPKBs under the guidance of the Directorate General of Land Transportation have taken control measures through tightening the inspection of goods transport vehicles passing through them. national roads, normalization, cargo transfer, E-ticketing, and enforcement through the P21 stage, "he explained.

Previously, the vehicle normalization process from 10 companies had been carried out with 22 normalized vehicles and a periodic test process was carried out at the Motor Vehicle Periodic Test Implementing Unit (UPUBKB).

"This success is inseparable from the support of various parties including the Police, the Regional Government, the Karoseri and the public who have an awareness of the importance of prosecuting ODOL violations," concluded Denny.
