Viral Police Extortion Of IDR 50 Thousand, Polda Metro Calls Persons Deactivated

JAKARTA - Viral on social media featuring illegal levies (extortion) on traffic police (poltas) against pickup-like car drivers. In the video uploaded to the Instagram account @endiuncle, the extortion action began when the driver turned his car around in the Bidara Cina area, East Jakarta, Friday, August 9. Then, a traffic police officer stopped the pickup truck and said that it was not yet time to be allowed to turn around the vehicle. "This is not allowed, it's still an hour away," said the traffic police in the video, quoted on Monday, August 12. "I was told to see this folder, sir," replied the driver. "What do you want to help with?" said the traffic police. "Get on the road, don't take long. Just fifty, don't be small," continued the traffic police. After giving the money, the driver of the open bale car was allowed to continue his journey. The upload received a response from the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. It was stated that the traffic police involved in the extortion had been deactivated.

"We apologize for the behavior of our members, the violations by these individuals will be followed up according to the procedure and we will immediately deactivate them from their current place of duty," wrote the account @tmcpoldametro.
