KENDARI - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.1 (M) in South Konawe Regency was felt up to Kendari City due to active fault activity.

Head of Kendari Geophysics Station Rudin ST said the tectonic earthquake occurred at 18.30 WITA, Wednesday, August 7.

"The results of the BMKG analysis show that the earthquake has a magnitude of 3.1," he said when contacted in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Wednesday, August 7, was confiscated by Antara.

Based on the data, he continued, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 4.02 South Latitude (LS) and 122.46 East Longitude (BT), or precisely located on land at a distance of 2.4 kilometers northwest of Ranomeeto District, South Konawe Regency.

"At a depth of about 5 kilometers," he said.

By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, he said, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake caused by active fault activity in the northwest of Ranomeeto District.

He explained that the shaking of the earthquake was reported to be felt in Kendari City with the vibration felt real in the house, and the vibration felt as if a truck had passed.

"Likewise in South Konawe Regency, vibrations are felt in the house, it feels as if a truck has passed," said Rudin.

As of 19.10 WITA, he continued, the results of BMKG monitoring showed that no aftershock activity had occurred.

Based on the earthquake, his party appealed to the entire community to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified, and to avoid cracked or damaged buildings caused by the earthquake.

"Check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the building before returning home," said Rudin.
