PPP admits Sandiaga hasn't shown interest in running for governor election

JAKARTA - Acting Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Muhammad Mardiono said Sandiaga Uno has not shown any interest in running as a candidate for governor or deputy governor in the 2024 regional elections.

Even the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), admitted Mardiono, has never reported to the PPP to discuss the governor election.

"Until now, Pak Sandi has never communicated with all of us for any interest in running for governor, yes. That has never happened," said Mardiono at the Jakarta Convention Center, Tuesday, 23 July evening.

So, if the National Awakening Party (PKB) is currently hesitant to carry Sandiaga in the West Java Pilgub, Mardiono understands it.

However, Mardiono still appreciates the proposals of parties outside the PPP in encouraging Sandiaga to participate in the 2024 Pilkada contestation.

"So, if there is a form of appreciation from the people both in DKI, East Java, and in West Java, yes, that is fine and we respect that," said Mardiono.

Previously, PKB Deputy Chairperson (Waketum) Jazilul Fawaid admitted that his party was looking for a new figure who could be nominated as a candidate for Governor of West Java in the 2024 Pilkada.

PKB had glanced at Sandiaga Uno to be promoted in the West Java Governor Election. However, now PKB sees Sandi's electability is still low.

"Pak Sandi's West Java is not going up. We are still looking for other alternatives," said Jazilul at the PKB DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Monday, 22 July.

Thus, PKB seems reluctant to attract the PPP elite. Because, if PKB insists on carrying Sandiaga, it is feared that it will lose to other candidates who will compete in the West Java governor election.

"It looks like the prospects are not good," said Jazilul.
