Former MA Secretary Nurhadi Proposes For Transfer: Stupid KPK Detention Center

JAKARTA - The attorney for the former Secretary of the Supreme Court (MA) Nurhadi, Maqdir Ismail, confirmed that his client had indeed proposed to move the detention center (remand center) for health reasons. This application is submitted to the DKI Jakarta High Court.

According to the confession of his client, the KPK detention center which is now occupied is stuffy and has no sunlight to enter.

"Not (because it is full, red). Because the condition is rather stuffy, especially since the bathroom vent was closed. As a result, no sunlight can enter and no air ventilation, ”explained Maqdir when contacted by VOI via text message, Sunday, March 21.

Meanwhile, regarding the KPK's accusation that this request was excessive, Maqdir actually stated that this comment was absurd. This is because the petition was based on health reasons.

"According to Pak Nurhadi, the conditions in the detention center now for him are not very good for his health. Therefore, we submit a letter to the Chairman of the Jakarta High Court," he said.

"So comments stating that the request is excessive, which does not make sense," added Maqdir.

Previously, Acting KPK spokesperson for prosecution Ali Fikri said that his party appreciated the request submitted by the defendant in the bribery and gratuity case. However, he considered that the reasons given by Nurhadi were excessive.

"The defendant's reasons are exaggerated," said Ali in his written statement to reporters, Sunday, March 21.

He emphasized that so far the KPK has fulfilled the rights of detainees and defendants in the KPK detention center, including health matters. In fact, this prison has a clinic that is ready to check the health of prisoners at any time.

In addition, the KPK also mentioned that Nurhadi had not been cooperative both in the investigation and trial processes. So, the anti-corruption commission hopes that this proposal will be rejected by the panel of judges.

"Because we are of the view that there is absolutely no urgency to transfer the prisoners in question," said Ali.

It is known, at this time, Nurhadi was placed in the KPK Detention Center Kavling C-1 Branch. Together with his son-in-law, Riezky Herbiyono, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 500 million, a subsidiary of 3 months.

Nurhadi was proven proven to have received bribes amounting to Rp35,726 billion and gratuities from a number of parties amounting to Rp. 13,787 billion.

The verdict was lower than the demands of the KPK public prosecutor (JPU) who asked Nurhadi to be sentenced to 12 years in prison plus a fine of Rp1 billion, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison, while his son-in-law, Rezky Herbiyono, was charged with 11 years in prison plus a fine of Rp1 billion, a subsidiary of 6 months in prison.
