New KPK Chair Election: Jokowi's Last Effort To Restore Public Trust In Corruption

JAKARTA - Indonesia Calling (IM) 57+ Institute assesses that the Pansel for Candidates for Leadership (capim) and the KPK Supervisory Board are the determinants for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to leave the best legacy in eradicating racism.

This was conveyed by the Chairman of the IM 57+ Institute, M. Praswad Nugraha in response to the registration of candidates for leadership and supervisory board ending on Monday, July 15 at 23.59 WIB. He said, there should be no intervention in the selection process so that Jokowi's legacy can be felt in the future.

"President Joko Widodo is in charge of all efforts to eradicate corruption in Indonesia so that this is the final opportunity to leave the legacy well by encouraging the election of a good leader and being able to restore public trust," said Praswad in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, July 16.

Prabowo Subianto as President for the period 2024-2029 must also monitor this selection process, continued Praswad. "Because he will be the one who will work for the next five years with the elected KPK commissioner," said the former anti-corruption commission employee.

"Probleming KPK leaders will certainly hinder future work," continued Praswad.

Praswad also said that the Capim Pansel and the KPK Council must realize that the chosen person has a strategic role in the future. "So that the hope that the South Korean Panel will be able to choose an extraordinary leader is the way to return the KPK to become an institution that is trusted by the public to become an obligation," he said.

"For this reason, it is time for the Pansel to work professionally to avoid various political interventions so that the Pansel can become a fort that produces 10 candidates with integrity," explained Praswad.

Diberitakan sebelumnya, pendaftaran capim dan calon dewas KPK dibuka selama 20 hari, yaitu pada 26 Juni hingga 15 Juli 2024. Pendaftar harus lebih dulu membuat akun di laman https://apel.setneg.go.id.

The enthusiast will go through the registration process and other stages of selection. Then, 10 names of candidates and 10 names of candidates for the KPK council will be submitted to President Joko Widodo to be forwarded to the DPR.
