Chairman Of The DPD La Nyalla Asks Kemenkumham To Take Decisive Action On The Trafficking Of Narcotics In Prisons

JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPD RI La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti asked the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to take firm action against all perpetrators of drug trafficking in prisons.

He considered, the high number of drug trafficking in prisons is currently very worrying. Moreover, prisons that should be able to cut off drug trafficking are actually places for drug trafficking.

"The government through Kemenkumham and other related parties must follow up on this issue," said La Nyalla, Thursday, March 18.

According to him, the public has not paid much attention to the information related to the rampant drug trafficking in prisons. Even minimal action even though things like this are very dangerous. And even more worrying, said La Nyalla, is that the arrested drug dealers are actually able to operate their activities from behind prison.

"What makes us all sad more, is the information about officers who are actually involved in drug trafficking in prisons. This is a drug mafia. The arrest of drug dealers who should solve the problem actually adds to many problems for the country," said the former head of the PSSI.

For this reason, La Nyalla hopes that the government can expressly sentence drug dealers to at least 4 years in prison. Even the death penalty or life sentence based on Law number 35 of 2009 on narcotics.

"Drug control involving officers in prisons is clearly a bad precedent for drug eradication. There must be firm action for anyone involved," he advised.
