Got Noise Exhaust Raids, Threatened 1 Month In Prison

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) Polda Metro Jaya has taken action against dozens of motorbikes in a noisy exhaust raid in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. The bikers who were prosecuted were threatened with one month's absence.

"About 11 are being prosecuted by the traffic police. (Action) We are also selective in priority, judging from the intolerable violations," said Head of Sub-Directorate of Gakkum Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya AKBP Fahri Siregar to reporters, Thursday, March 11.

However, Fahri did not specify the limits of the permissible motorbike exhaust sound.

Apart from that, the threat of one month imprisonment for the dozens of motorbike riders who had the noise because officers used the Traffic and Road Transportation Law. In fact, in the statute they were charged Rp. 250 thousand.

"Our motorbikes were confiscated. Violators are subject to Article 285 with a 1 month imprisonment or a fine of Rp. 250 thousand," he said.

Previously reported, Ditlantas Polda Metro Jaya held raids on vehicles using noisy exhausts in the Monas area to Sudirman-Thamrin tonight.

"We are securing the night off and filtering the Monas and Sudirman-Thamrin areas from noise pollution due to noisy exhausts and risky motorist behavior," said Director Lalu then Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo.

Sambodo said the dangerous behavior that also caught the attention of officers was the convoy of vehicles not meeting health protocols and speeding to illegal racing.

This filtering effort did not completely block access to Monas and Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, but prevented vehicles with noisy exhausts from entering the Monas and Sudirman-Thamrin areas.

"The road is not closed, it continues to run normally as usual, but if there are vehicles that pollute the sound, the exhaust is noisy, then we filter it, we prevent it from entering the Sudirman-Thamrin and Monas areas," he added.

The raid was held tonight because there were concerns about the emergence of illegal racing and motorbike convoys that would disturb the public on roads in Jakarta.

The raid was carried out at 26 points that are included in the exhaust filter policy for noise and riders are at risk. The 26 points start from the Harmoni area, Monas, to the Jalan Trunujoyo area in South Jakarta.
