JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) explained the importance of global cooperation in efforts to create water and climate security at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) conference in Bali.
Deputy for Systems and Strategy of BNPB Raditya Jati said climate change is one of the main triggers of various global water problems, for example excessive rain because climate change causes floods and landslides in various countries.
Not only Indonesia, based on records compiled by landslides with considerable damage and casualties, has also hit several countries in the world in recent years, including Davao de Oro, Philippines (33 people died), Nepal (25 people died), and Kyrgyzstan (four people died and 20 people were missing).
Therefore, BNPB considers it is time for collaboration and global level synergy to respond to the challenges and issues regarding water that have emerged in recent years.
According to him, this was answered concretely through WWFKe-10 which resulted in a ministerial level declaration as the main output and accompanied by a comprehensive or concrete agreement in it.
OutcomeWF can be seen in the ministerial level declaration, one of which is the center of excellence at the Asia Pacific level in the water and climate change," he said.

As one of the 9th session speakers who raised the theme "Establishing Cooperation for Center of Excellence (CoE) for Water and Climate Resilience" or building cooperation for the center of superior water and climate security, BNPB strongly supports efforts to deepen the latest issues in various sectors around water so that it can produce a political commitment to improve water management in the future.
BNPB assesses that each country actually already has its own CoE, for example, Indonesia with the CoE Weather and Climate which was formed 13 years ago to train human resource expertise with the support of world meteorological organizations.
In this effort, BNPB also contributed, through the education center and training of youth leaders and venture experts in the field of disaster from international.
"This global synergy continues to be voiced by Indonesia at the international level to improve water management in the future," he said.
