Minister Of Home Affairs Suggests Local Governments Successfully Manage Water To Get Incentives Of IDR 10 Billion

DENPASAR - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian proposed to the technical ministry that local governments (Pemda) receive incentives of IDR 10 billion for those who are considered successful in managing water, including access to clean water.

"The proposal is Rp. 10 billion per region which is considered successful in water management," said Tito Karnavian on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, Wednesday, May 22.

There are also indicators of the success of water management, including access to clean water and even drinking water, good management from business entities that manage water in the area to agricultural irrigation.

Tito explained that if it was approved by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), then the technical ministry would formulate the requirements in more detail.

The relevant ministries, he continued, will also discuss more technical matters regarding the number of regions that are considered outstanding in water management and are entitled to this incentive.

"The total will be 100 regions or enough for 10 regions, later the technical ministries will be discussed from the Ministry of Finance and PUPR," he said.

The proposal is to be a stimulus for local governments to improve water management, including matters of increasing access to clean water and drinking water to the community.

This is because water is currently one of the important needs besides energy and food security in the midst of an increasing population.

"The population of this world is developing exponentially, the high multiplicity is expected to reach eight billion in six years to 2030, while the amount of energy, food and water is limited," he added, quoted by ANTARA.

Meanwhile, water in Indonesia is a policy handled directly by local governments in accordance with the regional semi-autonomi policy, such as the issue of clean water and drinking water.

"We create competitive climates between regions so that they can compete for the best management," he added.

The proposed water management incentive is the same as the ongoing program, namely fiscal incentives for local governments that have succeeded in suppressing the inflation rate.

The amount of fiscal incentives for handling inflation reached Rp. 10 billion to 33 local governments, both districts/cities and provinces.
